Founder Story: 10 Skincare Lessons Sarah Has Learned in 10 Years

Founder Story: 10 Skincare Lessons Sarah Has Learned in 10 Years

In October, Sarah celebrated 10 years of running her boutique, a decade of helping clients feel confident and cared for. Over the years, she has learned a lot about her craft, her clients, and the business of skincare. To mark this milestone, she is sharing 10 lessons she has learned along the way, insights that reflect her experience, growth, and dedication over the past decade.

1. You have to crawl before you walk.

One of my favorite quotes is, “Stay small enough long enough and you’ll be big enough soon enough.” Business success doesn’t happen overnight. It takes time, patience, and trust in the process.

2. Growth starts with being vulnerable.

Don’t be afraid to ask questions, make mistakes, or lean on others for support. Vulnerability is where real growth begins, and wisdom comes from learning through those moments. Not being vulnerable can cause us to remain stuck in familiar patterns so we never fully realize our potential.

3. Surround yourself with positive, like-minded people.

You need people who inspire you, challenge you, and reflect the kind of person you want to become. Being around positive people can help you see possibilities instead of obstacles, build resilience during difficult times, and remind you of your potential when self-doubt creeps in.

4. Less is more.

In skincare and in life, don’t follow trends. What works for someone else may not work for you. By embracing “less,” we make room for what truly enriches our lives like deeper connections, creativity, and being present in the moment.

5. Have a ritual you stick to.

Mine is my skincare routine. Taking a few minutes for yourself each day isn’t vanity, it's balance. Daily rituals help train your mind and body to recognize when it's time to unwind or recharge.

6. You can’t always control what happens, but you can control how you respond.

It’s important to stay calm and focused. You can’t always control what happens, but you can control how you respond. Life is full of unpredictable moments and challenges that test our patience, resilience, and perseverance.

7. Embrace change.

You can’t evolve without it. Change is an inevitable part of life—it’s how we grow, learn, and move forward. Yet, change is the thing we usually resist the most. Embracing change allows you to release the need for certainty and to explore new possibilities, even when they push you beyond your comfort zone.

8. Remove negative words from your vocabulary.

The more positive you think, the more positive you become. Growth can’t exist in a negative mindset.

9. It’s important to help others.

I’m a big believer in karma, and giving back is part of growing. None of us get to where we are alone, so always find ways to pay it forward. Helping others builds connection, strengthens communities, and reminds us that we’re all part of something bigger than ourselves.

10. Don’t forget your friends.

It’s important to carve out time for them, even if it’s a walk, a coffee, or a simple phone call. Show up for the people who show up for you. True success in life feels even better when you’re surrounded by those who’ve supported you along the way.
